Let me first say that James Seng is the man! A few days ago he provided the world with his excellent CAPTCHA-based spam solution for Movable Type blogs. Now he’s created another spam blocker which uses a Bayesian filter. This new filter works on TrackBacks too. I like the idea of this ‘learning’ plugin much better than the popular blacklist method being widely implemented now. I’ll be loading James’ new plugin pronto.

Eliminating the URL field is still the best method…
That may not be a bad idea if you don’t like the idea of being able to jump to legitimate bloggers who leave comments. But that method doesn’t prevent spammers from putting links in the body of their comments. Of course you could disallow HTML, but that’s sub-optimal too. I dount that there is a poerfect solution though…
