Through the years as I’ve turned less and less to my beloved Hip-Hop, I’ve ventured into the Acid-Jazz, Drum & Bass, and 2 Step arenas. But my latest discovery quickly became one of my favorites. Unfortunately I don’t know how to adequately describe this style of music — depending on the song, you can find elements of deep house, soul, electronica, nu-jazz, broken beat, funk, trip-hop, chill-out…

This music generally consists a funky, house type beat, overlaid with smooth instrumentals, topped off with some soulful vocals. But the best thing to do is to sample it for yourself. A great place to start is with some of the releases of the premiere label in this space, Naked Music. Some of my favorites are Beautiful Tomorrow by Blue Six, Colorful You by Miguel Migs (aka Petalpusher), the Nude Dimensions series, and the Carte Blanche series. My most recent find, which is in heavy rotation, is Kaskade’s It’s You, It’s Me, from Om Records.

Take a listen and be sure to turn up your subwoofers.
