Verizon has jumped the gun and announced an agreement to <a href=\"http:\/\/biz.yahoo.com\/ap\/030923\/keeping_phone_numbers_1.html\" title=\"Verizon to Allow Land Numbers for Cells\">allow customers to turn their landline phone numbers into cell phone numbers<\/a>.   All the carriers have to allow mobile numbers to be portable (you can take your number with you when you switch carriers) by November 24<sup>th<\/sup>, but they&#8217;ve been fighting landline portability.
