{"id":56,"date":"2003-07-07T11:13:15","date_gmt":"2003-07-07T15:13:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tradermike.net\/movethecrowd\/2003\/07\/how_innovation_can_save_entertainment\/"},"modified":"2003-07-07T11:13:15","modified_gmt":"2003-07-07T15:13:15","slug":"how_innovation_can_save_entertainment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.michaelseneadza.com\/blog\/2003\/07\/07\/how_innovation_can_save_entertainment\/","title":{"rendered":"How Innovation Can Save Entertainment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s a topic that I often write about: <a href=\"http:\/\/tradermike.net\/movethecrowd\/archives\/2003\/07\/the_sad_state_of_music.php\">the state of the music industry<\/a>, especially with regard to <a href=\"http:\/\/tradermike.net\/movethecrowd\/archives\/2003\/07\/kazaa_lite_k_edition.php\">file sharing<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.salon.com\/0002007\/\"><i>How to Save the World<\/i><\/a> has a good article examining <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.salon.com\/0002007\/2003\/07\/07.html#a301\" title=\"How Innovation Could Save the Entertainment Industry from Itself\">how the entertainment industry can adapt<\/a> to the wild world of <acronym title=\"peer-to-peer\">P2P<\/acronym> file sharing.  Here&#8217;s a snippet:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>At the same time consumers have become increasingly reluctant to pay $20 for a collection of over-hyped music on a CD that costs fifty cents to make, they have actually been willing to spend <i>more than ever before<\/i> on the technologies that &#8216;play&#8217; the content. That&#8217;s right, a recent survey shows consumers are moving upscale in their entertainment &#8216;hardware&#8217; purchases, because they see more value for their dollar there. And while CD sales (at least of mass-marketed titles) are off 50%, the total number of titles issued by the Big 5 (who generate 85% of all music sales) is <i>also<\/i> down 50%. Cut the supply in half, why is the industry surprised that demand has declined accordingly?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The article goes on to list several solutions to the industry&#8217;s problems.
