Kobe’s New Tattoo

Anil points out the caption on this picture of Kobe Bryant’s new tattoo (update 10/22/2003 – Yahoo! has now expired that picture, but you can see it here):

Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant shows off his new tattoo as a tribute to his wife, Vanessa and Psalm 27 during camp Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Bryant never used to talk about his faith. Funny how fast a man can get religion when he’s in trouble. (AP Photo/Douglas C. Pizac)

Although I totally agree with the reporter, it is strange to see such comments on a photo at a news site. Oh well, Kobe wanted the spotlight, he’s got it.

Update: Interesting that they’ve removed the self-righteous commentary from the picture now. But I’ve got them here for posterity.

  2. First off, your securtiy code check is da bomb.

I totally agree that the commentary was inappropriate for a news site. What’s up with that? I agree that when people get into trouble they tend to turn to religion. But isn’t that what we are supposed to do?

Sure we should practice our Faith regularly. But if we get off the path and it takes a tragedy to bring us back, is that so bad?

Yeah, I guess. What bothers me about that is that some people lean on, or even showcase, their religious beliefs when things are going bad, but never mention them when things are good. But hey, whatever works.

  5. i understand where u comin from sayin kobe’s turin to religon in the face of adversity. However for those of use who don’t know Kobe has always been very religous. He would call a close friend ih philly before every game and say a prayer before each game. So just because he is now expressing his faith openly doesn’t mean that he has never been a strong believer in a higher power.

    ONe love
