Yahoo! Swings Back at Google’s GMail

Yahoo has changed their e-mail policies so that spam now longer counts as part of a user’s allotted storage space…

Damn you’ve gotta love competition! Over the last few days I’ve noticed that my Yahoo! Mail’s spam folder was holding a ton of messages, but they weren’t chewing up my allotted storage space as they usually do. Today I discovered why — Yahoo! has changed their policy so that now the bulk/spam folder no longer counts towards a user’s space allotment. They’ve clearly done this to combat the flood of people who would have switched to Google’s GMail, which gives users 1 gigabyte of storage for free. And I was itching to make that move. Yahoo was wise to make this change in policy b/c now I don’t really see the need to switch and I’m sure thousands of other people will feel the same. Now they need to make POP/IMAP access free as well.

Tip Drillin’ & Booty Poppin’

Nelly’s ‘Tip Drill’ and Ludacris’ ‘Booty Poppin’ videos should be on pay-per-view instead of basic cable…

My TiVo knows me so well. I’d heard all the hoopla over Nelly’s video for ‘Tip Drill’ a week or so ago but I hadn’t seen the video. I meant to set the TiVo to record ‘BET Uncut’ but it slipped my mind. Well today while eating breakfast I noticed that my TiVo went ahead and recorded it as one of my suggested recordings. (gotta love how TiVo is always working…) I got a bonus of seeing Ludacris’ ‘Booty Poppin’ (apparently the real name of the song is ‘Pussy Poppin… hmmm…) as well. If you haven’t seen either of the videos I’ll describe them for you — One part strip club, one part (soft) porn flick and an extra pinch of strip club for good measure.

Now I’m probably the last mofo to turn away from some ish like that but I couldn’t help but think about all the kids, especially young girls, that are seeing these videos. I can only imagine how many young girls are learning that clapping their a$$es for a bunch of men is a great way to get paid. Not to mention the jacked up messages the boys are getting. But my biggest gripe is with BET though. They have all these disclaimers during the show about how it’s not for people under 17 and the show’s on really late at night. That’s all well and good, but what about VCRs and PVRs? Surely they don’t think that kids aren’t recording the show to view at their leisure. It’s a damn shame that these are being shown on basic cable. Pay-per-view would be more appropriate. This is just the latest in a long string of disservices to the Black community by BET. I used to think there was hope for them, but not any more.

This article does a great job of discussing the issue – Really Wild Videos Come Out at Night. I’ll archive it below for posterity.

Mark Cuban, Donald Trump and Kwame Jackson

I saw Kwame Jackson, ‘The Apprentice’ runner-up on CNBC today. He said that Mark Cuban gave him a real nice job offer last night. IIRC, Kwame said that Mark waited around for about two hours last night after their party to speak with Kwame. Mark then made him an offer to run some of the companies in Mark’s investment portfolio. (Here’s a recent newspaper article about Kwame’s various offers ) So I thought I’d check out Cuban’s blog to see what he had to say about Kwame’s offer. There was nothing there about the offer but I was surprised to see this entry, in which Mark lays in to Donald Trump. Some snippets:

Let’s get some things cleared up in case anyone is confused. The Benefactor is going to be nothing like The Apprentice. Why? Because, Donald, we are not alike in any way. The funny thing is, in some respects, I have you to thank for that.

I have been in a lot of offices. I have seen pictures with the president, with family, with various famous people, but the over/under was usually 5 pictures, not 100. At that point in my life I was very well off financially, but I had a lot more paper money from stock in my net worth than cash. Our encounters proved to be a reality check for me.

After leaving your office, I promised myself that if I ever got liquid and had an obscene amount of money in the bank, I would make a point not to remind myself and everyone else around me of it every minute of every day — unlike you.

I guess our definition of success is just completely different.

I used to wear a suit to work every day. I worked hard so I wouldn’t have to. I bought a big house so I could throw a football and play whiffleball in it, rather than show it off. I don’t play golf, I work out. I dont have an entourage, I have friends. You talk about how much you are getting paid per episode, I talk about the fact I’m not. You need to make more, to me billions are enough. But those are little things.

Where we are 180 degrees different is how we deal with business partners. You talk about how your problem casinos are just 1 pct of your networth. I would feel like shit if I had a failing business with partners that were going to lose money and would talk about what it meant to my partners net worth, not my own. Heck, I won’t even let friends invest in any of my companies until I’m certain they will make it. How in the world can you pay yourself while shareholders take a beating?

I like your show. It was entertaining and brought out your personality and approach to the world.

So will mine, and I can assure you they are nothing alike. If I wanted to do a show like yours, I would have met with Mark Burnett when he wanted to talk about taking your place after next season.

Well damn! LOL

A Little Drum & Bass for Ya

I’m in a Drum & Bass mood as I prepare for the Progression Sessions show (LTJ Bukem, MC Conrad, Ed Rush & Optical, Mayhem) toninght in Atlanta. So I’ve uploaded some of my favorite D&B tracks. These were my first exposure to the genre. MTV used to have a late night program (I think it was called ‘Amp’) that showed ‘different’ genres of music. I came in from a club one night, plopped down on the couch to inhale my Krispy Kreme and check out some videos. Roni Size’s ‘Brown Paper Bag’ and either ‘Heroes’ or ‘New Forms, feat. Bahamadia’ videos were playing. I was immediately hooked. I got online and did some research and then discovered GrooveRider and LTJ Bukem. The GrooveRider track ‘Imagination Parts 1 & 2’ may be my all-time favorite D&B track. When you listen to it be sure to let it play all the way though, as it just keeps building & adding layers. LTJ Bukem has an incredible range of styles. The tracks of his that I’ve uploaded are just a small sample. He can do that R&B type ish, like on ‘SunRain’ or go all the way to some straight up hard core D&B like on ‘Future Engineers’ or the tracks with MC Conrad. Enjoy and turn up your subwoofers…

Update: The D&B tracks are now gone. Check out a newer Radio.Blog post.
