Kobe Arrested!

Say it ain’t so Kobe! Kobe Bryant has been arrested on a felony count of sexual assault. This is really difficult for me to believe becasue it seems totally out of character for Kobe. It should be really interesting to see this story unfold.

PaperBagTest.com?

GetUnderground.com has an excellent critique of LightSkinPeople.com. Here’s a snippet: “Are light-skinned people hard up for dates or something?” my friend Carol scoffs when I call her to discuss Rome’s new venture. Carol is a brown-skinned sister who’s fed up to the teeth with comments like “You’re pretty to be so dark,” so this discriminatory… Continue reading PaperBagTest.com?

Book Club that Blogs

This book club, Zuly’s Reading Room, looks like a great idea: Zuly’s Reading Room is a place to talk about books that you’re reading. We don’t all read the same book at the same time. Instead, we just talk about the book we’re reading at the present time. If other people have read it, they… Continue reading Book Club that Blogs

The Sad State of Music

I second and third the emotions of two posts about music I’ve read recently. The first (Grown Folks’ Music) laments the music being played on radio these days. I gave up on radio long ago, but I remember loving to listen to radio (especially KDAY and KJLH) in Los Angeles when I was a kid.… Continue reading The Sad State of Music

Hip-Hop Intellectuals

SFGate has a very good article exploring the coming of age of hip-hop’s second generation. This pretty much sums it up for me: In fact, the current class of hip-hop intellectuals is largely fed up with what hip-hop has become — sick of rap’s minute attention span, disorganization, violence, misogyny, cynicism, self-obsession, arrogance, machismo, homophobia… Continue reading Hip-Hop Intellectuals

My First Zempt Post

I just found this new blog editing tool/front end called Zempt. Zempt ‘plays well’ with Movable Type by providing entry areas for ‘extended entries’ and ‘excerpts’. It even allows you to specify secondary categories, keywords, URLs to ping, and just about everything else you can specify in Movable Type. I think I just found a replacement… Continue reading My First Zempt Post
