Classic Video Games

Kevin provides a flashback to my childhood with his post about the Mattel Football game. (I can’t believe that came out in 1977… damn I’m getting old!) I, like Kevin, was shocked to see those old games and others in stores a few years ago. (And others like Simon.) We had so much fun playing that simple little game, as well as Mattel’s Baseball game. Funny how kids back then could have so much fun with such basic games, especially when compared to today’s video games. I wonder how well received these games are by kids now.

As an aside, if any of you love the classic arcade games and don’t know about MAME you must check it out! It allows you to play the original arcade versions of most old-school arcade games (just to refresh your memories: all the variations of Pac-Man, Galaga, Asteroids, Dig Dug, Mr. Do!, Centipede, Millipede, Defender, Galaxian, Gorf, Naughty Boy, Joust, Space Invaders, Zaxxon…). And all for the low, low price of nothing! Excuse me while I go fire up a game of Galaga…

  1. Which game is the “Galaxia” type game whare you start with a little ship(1 gun) and then when you get to higher levels, you have to land on another ship that adds more guns? Then, you might only get hit on the duel gun section and still have your little single gun ship?
